I’ve always been a fan of Super Bowl Sunday, celebrating it on my blog with outfit inspiration and the best snacks. This year feels a bit different because Puerto Rico takes center stage with Bad Bunny as the headlining artist for the halftime show. It’s no longer just the Super Bowl; it’s the Benito Bowl! Honestly, I have no idea who’s playing this year, but my Puerto Rican pride is at an all-time high!
There’s been a lot of controversy surrounding Bad Bunny’s performance due to his language, as he sings and speaks only in Spanish, and some people feel his music isn’t American enough or a bit controversial which it is ( I won’t deny that). But I also won’t deny that Bad Bunny has done a lot of great things for Puerto Rico. The Super Bowl isn’t about Bad Bunny; it’s about Puerto Rico 🇵🇷, which, for those who are ignorant let me educate you, it is a territory of the U.S., making us American citizens.
The language dilema has been a struggle I’ve faced as a Latina influencer and blogger. People get triggered if I speak only Spanish or only English, and it’s even worse if I mix them both up into Spanglish. I’m a proud Puerto Rican, born and raised in New York, who has lived half her adult life in Puerto Rico. I embrace every part of who I am and the two languages I speak. To those who criticize Bad Bunny for his language or perceived lack of “Americaness”, I say this: Puerto Ricans are American citizens, and music is a universal language. Just as many have embraced reggaeton and salsa, K-pop is also being embraced worldwide because it knows no borders! Let all just get along and not be a part of the division in the world please!
In celebration of this Super Bowl, I wanted to share some outfit inspiration that embraces fashion and Puerto Rican culture! Whether you’re watching the super from the tropical weather of Puerto Rico or your freezing your butt off in New York like me, I’ve got you covered!
Btw don’t forget the sandwichitos de mezcla , quesito con guayaba or alcapurrias for appetizers!
¡Now let’s celebrate our orgullo boricua! Wepa! Yo soy boricua pa’ que tú lo sepas! O como dice Bad Bunny, ¡yo soy de P fkn R!!!!
