Dealing With Holiday Stress and Depression During Covid-19 Pandemic

The holidays are the most joyful time of the year but this season will be very different for us all. In normal times many people looked forward to parties, family gatherings and gift exchanges while celebrating traditions. Due to COVID -19 all that has changed.

In the reality we face today many people have lost loved ones while others are dealing with financial stress as many have lost their jobs. This 2020 pandemic has brought depression and anxiety to an alarming rise. Now in addition we face the holiday stress.

Change is difficult for many; I know it is for me. Especially when they are changes you didn’t expect and have no control over. If, I’m honest it took me a while to accept are new reality especially when it affected many areas of my life until I decided to focus on what I could control I began to change my perspective.

Though we are still fighting against this pandemic it doesn’t mean your holidays are destined to be an epic disappointment. Here’s a few ways to deal with the stress and depression you may be facing so you can still enjoy this holiday season:

Embrace the new traditions. /Abraza las nuevas tradiciones.

We tend to get attached to traditions and a certain way of life; that’s way change becomes so difficult. Let’s be real, holidays have always been full of stress from chaotic shopping trying to find the best gifts too endless to do list. Let us not forget to mention family dinners where you’re bombarded with questions like, “Where’s the boyfriend?” When are you having kids? When are you getting married? or comments like “Still no boyfriend” “Oh wow you’ve put on some weight”. Let’s embrace the fact that we won’t be dealing with tons of stressful factors. Besides this is the time to celebrate the true meaning of Christmas. Christmas isn’t Santa or gifts, this season we celebrate the birth of Jesus who came to bring love, peace, hope and salvation into this world.

¿Cuándo vas a tener hijos?

Be grateful and count your blessings. Sé agradecida/o y  cuenta tus bendiciones.

If there’s one major fact we can take from 2020 is the importance of being grateful. Though it may seem harder than ever to be appreciative, trust me there is so much to be thankful for. Every morning you wake up is a blessing. It’s important to appreciate everything rom having health to the simplicity of enjoying a cup of coffee in the morning. Being grateful changes your perspective. Shed negative thoughts from your mind and embrace positivity and appreciation.

Make the most of it. Has tu mejor esfuerso.

We can’t deny the holidays will be very different this year but there all still many ways to celebrate and make the most of it. It’s important to find creative ways to adapt or start new traditions. The current reality we face is no reason not to enjoy this holiday season. LOVE is the reason for this season, lets embrace it.
