Though we may not like to admit it sometimes we tend to give too much importance to the amount of followers and likes we have on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Snapchat. Though my blog receives tons of views; I have never been too impressed with my social media numbers. My opinion was recently changed when I met a follower who asked me, “Is being a blogger easy and how did you get so many followers on your social media?” In all honesty I was shocked because I have always compared myself to bloggers with 200,000+ followers. I’ve been blogging for years and in the process I’ve been through just about anything a Blogger can face. My answer to her was pretty simple, “Being a blogger takes passion, persistence, dedication and lot’s of creativity”.
That night I couldn’t sleep. My brain just wouldn’t stop working. I’m always in my head….I’m either over analyzing, overthinking or creating. For some reason this girls amazement over my following had me thinking deeply. Are numbers really important? Are we really defined by how many followers we have? NO, numbers do not define us but for some reason people make such a bigger deal about it.
I personally know so many bloggers with a low following but their work and creativity is amazing. Meanwhile, I find no amusement in the content of some bloggers who have a huge number of followers. Quality always wins over quantity.
When it comes to social media I now have a new perspective that all bloggers should recognize as well; Social Media numbers or likes do not define you. I, Charlene Gonzalez, creator of Lovely Chicas want to be known for more than just my social media numbers. Being known for my heart, authenticity, honesty, good will and kindness is much more important to me. In addition, all bloggers need to understand that the quality, creativity and dedication you invest are worth much more than any number. Love what you do and be proud of your accomplishments no matter how minimal they may seem. I wish all influencers, bloggers and Vloggers would feel the same. This isn’t a competition. Just be passionate and you will accomplish far more than you dreamed. Forget about the numbers, work hard and pursue your goals.
Be you, Be Lovely
Charlene Gonzalez
