Frustration, deception, hurt, disgust, rage are just a few of the words that define how I feel. These past weeks my beloved Puerto Rico, the island I’ve called my home for the past 14 years, has been stricken with ultimate betrayal and corruption.
A few years ago, Puerto Rico was exposed onto the world because of its unpayable debt than Hurricane Maria struck with more destruction leaving more than 4,000 dead. I myself lost much during this time but others lost so much more.
As Puerto Rico slowly began to progress, we were devastatingly hit with the greatest scandal that unveiled shocking truths. From money and necessities held from those in need and dyeing during hurricane Maria, to millions stolen by government officials, and a leaked vile telegram chat which exposed the disgusting man Ricardo Rosello truly was. This chat exposed lies, conspiracies, media manipulations, vulgar references towards women, homosexuals, politicians and celebrities. It also reflected the great arrogance behind those who led Puerto Rico.
As Puerto Ricans we’ve been hurt us in our most vulnerable time. This has nothing to do with politics or colors but has all to do with respect, humility, values and morals. I stand by as a heartbroken Puerto Rican untied in my island’s revolution for justice.
I’m exhausted of watching the government continue to oppress and steal from my people. As a Puerto Rica who works hard with dignity, I stand up for no more abuse. We’ve had enough of leaders who look forward to getting rich on behalf of others misery. Ricardo Rosello, Puerto Rico has spoken, and you must hear us. We don’t stand by you.
There is no other place more beautiful than my island Puerto Rico and its friendly, humble and hardworking people. Through diversities we unite and stand strong.
Our trust and dignity have been broken but united we fight for a better Puerto Rico. One full of respect, love, tolerance, inclusivity for all not focusing on any economic status, race, sexual orientation, religion or political beliefs. We’ve overcome greater disasters and we will also overcome this pain. Our revolution stands to break corruption.
Through Lovey Chicas my goal has always been to make a positive difference promoting purpose in my actions and publications.
To all my fellow Puerto Ricans all around the world make your voice heard in our fight for justice.
Today more than ever our pain isn’t defined by any political party its defined by the essence of blood that flows through our veins and by the heritage that defines who we are.
