Don’t Let Social Media Numbers Define You #BloggerAdvice

Though we may not like to admit it sometimes we tend to give too much importance to the amount of followers and likes we have on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Snapchat. Though my blog receives tons of views; I have never been too impressed with my social media numbers. My opinion was recently changed when I met a follower who asked me, “Is being a blogger easy and how did you get so many followers on your social media?” In all honesty I was shocked because I have always compared myself to bloggers with 200,000+ followers. I’ve been blogging for years and in the process I’ve been through just about anything a Blogger can face. My answer to her was pretty simple, “Being a blogger takes passion, persistence, dedication and lot’s of creativity”.

That night I couldn’t sleep. My brain just wouldn’t stop working. I’m always in my head….I’m either over analyzing, overthinking or creating. For some reason this girls amazement over my following had me thinking deeply. Are numbers really important? Are we really defined by how many followers we have? NO, numbers do not define us but for some reason people make such a bigger deal about it.

I personally know so many bloggers with a low following but their work and creativity is amazing. Meanwhile, I find no amusement in the content of some bloggers who have a huge number of followers. Quality always wins over quantity.

When it comes to social media I now have a new perspective that all bloggers should recognize as well; Social Media numbers or likes do not define you. I, Charlene Gonzalez, creator of Lovely Chicas want to be known for more than just my social media numbers. Being known for my heart, authenticity, honesty, good will and kindness is much more important to me. In addition, all bloggers need to understand that the quality, creativity and dedication you invest are worth much more than any number. Love what you do and be proud of your accomplishments no matter how minimal they may seem. I wish all influencers, bloggers and Vloggers would feel the same. This isn’t a competition. Just be passionate and you will accomplish far more than you dreamed. Forget about the numbers, work hard and pursue your goals.

Casual & Carefree

In the process of my blogging career you have all come to know personal aspects of my life. So, in this post I wanted to honor my authenticity though I won’t share too much detail. There have been a few changes in my life these pasts few months. Life is full of surprises. Trust me, I could write a kick-ass book series with all of my experiences. Sometimes these certain situations may leave you feeling crushed and sucker-punched but the outcome of anything you face is truly up to you. Though everything inside me just wanted to give up and break down, I continued to fake a smile until I finally had to accept the reality…some things are just not meant to be. Sometimes the truth hurts much more than a lie.

Within the options available, you can either submerge into depression and anger or get up and move on. I chose to get up and move on. Life is what you make of it. Nothing should stand in the way of your goals and happiness. I’ve chosen to make the most of every moment holding on to my faith because through everything God has been my strength. Besides, everything in life happens for a greater purpose.

Mixing fashion with life, the outfit in this post definitely defines how I’m taking on life. I’m just living every moment to the fullest, carefree and embracing happiness. Being happy is a choice YOU have to make.

The Look: Both sporty and sexy, bomber jackets are a great way to dress down and add edge to a look. Mixing and clashing styles I wore denim shorts and my fav combat boots to complete my bomber jacket street-style look. As for accessories, I opted to wear a simple but chic choker. I feel ready to conquer the world with this outfit!

Now, for any of you who are dealing with any difficult situation I just want to remind you that everything will be ok. What truly matters is how we deal with these struggles and difficulties when they face us. The truth is that “What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger”. Chose to be happy, put on your favorite outfit and conquer the world.

Preppy Fashion with Aeropostale

Posted on

It’s time to add some preppiness to your style. What does dressing preppy mean? Preppy is just another term for timeless and effortless. Cardigans, button down blouses and plaid print are the main staples of this classic style.

Just in time for back-to-school Aeropostale introduces its new American brand Prince & Fox, which highlights modern prep-influenced trends. In honor of this new launch Aeropostale asked me to style my favorite pieces from the brand. My personal style has always involved a bit of everything and I have been very drawn to preppy trends. Aeropostale is one of my top 10 favorite stores to shop at. Their style options are cute, girly, casual and comfy; pretty much everything I love!

Shop Aeropostale

So, for the Prince & Fox look I simply combined a black flare dress, button down chambray and metallic rose-gold sneakers. Something that caught my attention about the dress was its lace detailing. As for the blouse I think it’s a no surprise that I’m a huge fan of chambray because of its versatility.

If you like this look and want to see all of the options available be sure to Shop Aeropostale’s New Collection: Prince + Fox

Lovely Chicas Presents “GIRL TALK”

One of my biggest fears about blogging was representing myself in an artificial and unfavorable way. I was terrified people would see me as conceited, shallow or materialistic. If there is one thing I know for sure it’s that I don’t want to be remembered as the girl with a blog, with the chic outfit or by the way I present myself in images. I’ve always been very passionate about writing, helping others and of course fashion. As a young girl one of my greatest dreams was to travel the world and help those in need. Though I personally have not traveled the whole world this blog has. Honestly, there is much more to life than fashion and beauty. I’m officially opening up my heart because my main goal with Lovely Chicas has always been to inspire girls to love and be themselves.

Starting this blog, Lovely Chicas, has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. It has led to so many amazing opportunities and has connected me to so many people and new friends. Though I wouldn’t trade my experiences for absolutely anything in this world at times it’s a bit easy to get caught up in the wrong aspects about blogging.

All that said, I want to present a new series in Lovely Chica’s titled GIRL TALK. With GIRL TALK I will cover all the situations we have to deal with in life. There are many topics that at times girls don’t have someone to confide in. So that’s where I come in. I’m here to answer all those questions and doubts to the best of my knowledge and experience. When I don’t have the ability to answer your question I will have a special guest that will be an expert. With their website GIRL TALK we will cover topics about relationships, periods, breakups, friendships, stress, self-esteem, dating, being bullied, hygiene, sex, virginity……everything and anything will be the subject here.  I have covered a few of these topics on the blog before but I wanted to make it an official weekly series.

To make this section possible I need your help. Since this is for you please send me an email (Charlene@lovelychicas.com) or write a comment below with any specific topic or question you want answered. Don’t be shy and ask away! This is the moment when your doubts will be answered.

School Girl

Posted on

The first day of school is the most important day of the school year especially when you’re in college. It’s your official debut and your outfit has to be stylish and comfy.
Fashion doesn’t have to be complicated. Sometimes the best looks are the one that take you the least effort to put together.

So, getting my school girl preppy on I put together this chic outfit inspo. First off, not all school bags have to be a backpack. It’s always a good idea to switch up your accessories. So change things a bit and instead of a backpack rock a cute tote.  Tote bags are probably the most popular type of school bags for college girls because they are very trendy, cute and functional.

This Kipling Dusty Back Nylon Tote is my favorite tote. The space it provides is just amazing. Seriously, it’s so easy to stay organized with this bag. It has so many pockets so you can comfortably fit your laptop, notebooks, cosmetics bag, phone, school supplies and much more without it appearing to look bulky. Its sleek and sophisticated look is perfect for class and any everyday activities. It’s so stylish enough to use on your days off.

Now let’s get ahead of the class with a super smart and chic look. Striking the perfect balance for my outfit I wore a t-shirt and high waited black jeans paired with a denim blazer/jacket, which is the ultimate back-to-school staple that will come in handy all semester long. To polish up the look a bit more for shoes I wore beige embossed slippers.

What do you think about this back-to-school outfit?
